Little French key lunch or no lunch

We went to Little French Key for the first time last year and will go any time we are at this port! This is a place I would save up and go if possible. Our time there was much too short last time...darn ship time!!! There are all sorts of options where to sit...sun...no sun... and they have all sorts of fun toys to play with at no cost. I fell in love with the stand up paddle board...I am sure there is a proper name for it...and my 60 yr old husband had fun on the rope swing! The lunch was quite yummy, but if needed I would eat a big breakfast and take snacks if needed not to miss this place. I was a bit hesitant about the price last year but it was well worth the money. I have a pic on my desk at work of us here that I look at when I need a mental escape for a minute or two. They have some rescue animals that are fun to look at as well. I have read that some folks were not happy if it was very crowded, but when we went last Feb, it wasn't crowded at all. I guess you could see how many other ships were in port at the same time to guage how crowded it could be.

who did you use to book this?

who did you use to book this?

you go to the little french key website, pick the package you want and fill the form out. You do not pay in advance you pay when you arrive.

It usually takes a few days to send you back a email to confirm your request.

Here is where we booked.

http://www.littlefrenchkey.com

No deposit required.

We are also now thinking maybe we could save $$$ and not book lunch.

Is there food you can buy, say if my boys want a snack instead of lunch? It lists a pizza place and several bars....anyone comment on prices?

It's $55just to go to the island and have full use of facilities, as well as transportation by boat there and back to the ship.

For $88 you get 2 drinks and lunch included as well. Lunch sounds like quite a big meal .

For $98 it's 2 drinks, lunch and snorkelling.

Booking snorkelling on the island separately is $20 per person ( what!!!) but a private boat takes you out to the reef I guess?

That's a $400 excursion for our family of 4 .

We could turn it into a $210 excursion, with out food and snorkelling....this is sounding like a better idea.

Thinking maybe we should change what we booked and do the $210 and play it by ear when we get there...

Worried if we book everything in advance and don't have enough time to snorkel, or kids aren't hungry, we've wasted money. Hmmm. What to do?:confused:

Just to update, I emailed them for specifics:

The $55 package DOESNT include any of the non motorized equipment.

They are add ones.

Snorkelling gear is $10 plus an additional $10 fior them to take you to the reef

Paddle boats $25 ( for the day)

Kayaks $25 ( for the day)

So I guess if you want to do anything, other then sit and swim, it's a better deal to buy a package, as a few drinks are included as well as a meal and equipment.

We were here in July and did the package with the snorkel and lunch. The lunch was good, but I had to share my plate with my toddler and my husband and daughter have bottomless pits for stomachs so we were still hungry while we were there. We ended up buying some fries. I think we may have bought chicken tenders too, but I cant remember. I dont remember the price, but I dont think it was more than $10. We didnt really use the non-motorized equipment used the kayak once but otherwise we walked around the property, snorkeled once and swam in the water. If you are looking to cut costs here you will still have a nice day there without the added expenses.

You really can't compare a day at LFK with a day at MB - it's like comparing a duck to a moose. LFK is incredibly beautiful and very special - even to those of us who lived on Roatan for 4 years (like I did). If you have to cut back on something, forego lunch BUT go to LFK. You should google both MB and LFK and you will see what I mean.

I'm desperately trying to decide on what to do in Roatan. Maybe someone who has lived there can help. LFK or West Bay Beach???

I am looking at LFK for a cruise the week after Easter on the Magic.

From my research on a lot of these excursions, especially ones not booked with the cruise ship is that you should probably go small and play it by ear.

I have read several comments about bad time management and other issues that eat up your short shore day. This being the case if you pay for say the full horse back swim and lunch and snorkel and kayak and paddle boards odds are you will never get around to all of them and there is the chance some might not even be possible due to weather.

Me and my lady are going to get the lunch package and call it a day. Seems like a nice place just be careful you don't layout money for nothing and have to hassle with trying to get it back if you even can.

The ultimate reason I am going here is to avoid the beach peddlers. There is something to be said about a few hours not being pestered to death while on vacation trying to relax. I can overlook a few kids running around etc but the constant requests to buy something are a real buzz kill. Someone needs to teach these port peddlers and others that they could sell a lot more items if they didn't hassle people as they do.
