Breeze Thanksgiving 2015 Family Cruise Review

After hanging out at the casino until the wee hours of the night I get to the room and find a letter from the excursion group. They canceled my semi-submersible submarine tour due to lack of attendance. They rebooked us for the later trip. This did not work for me so I headed down to guest services and they promptly issued a credit to my onboard account and apologized for my troubles. No biggie. They handled it no questions asked. The next morning we got up early and headed up to the Lido for more fresh made omelettes. To my surprise there was a HA ship docked next to us. We were supposed to be the only boat in port that day. After checking out their layout from the deck we headed down to meet up with the group who were already on shore.

This was my 1st favorite port and 2nd favorite island. Everything you need is a short walk from the pier. Soon as you exit the boat you enter a quaint little shopping area. It did not take long for mama to fall prey to the showcases.

I wanna be just like daddy!

After the shops you have the beach to your left and Margaritaville to your right. The beach chairs are free to use and the vendors will rent you an umbrella if you can’t get a chair under the trees. We found the group and I immediately nestled in a lounger and enjoyed a refreshing beverage.

It was almost like you could reach out and touch it!

Not really sure what is going on tonight but Tinypics and CC are not playing well together for me.

Now back to the review.

The sand at this beach was like dense quicksand. You would sink some while walking but not enough to cause suction. It got to the point where I just took my flops off and went bare foot. It was not an issue when I had on my pool shoes. As you can see from the pictures the water was gin clear. There were some lumps of coral in the water but not too much. If you dug for it you could find it easily. There was also a limited amount of seaweed in the area. We spotted fish here and there. If you went far enough away from the shore you would get to the drop off. We never dared to see how deep it went.

Around 11 AM we made our way down to Jack's Shack. My FB group had made arrangements for us to get discounted drinks and food from there. It is located on the opposite end of the beach down by the Coast Guard pier. Not a long walk at all. The food there did not disappoint! We had Jerk Chicken, Fried Shrimp, and Cracked Conch!

After our meal the young at heart rested under the warm Caribbean sun while the actual young folk hit up the banana boat ride. This was an adventure and a half as we came to find out.

There were several vendors offering their services for towables, 4 wheeler tours, etc. as you walked down the beach.

We never realy ventured into Margaritaville past the first drink kiosk. From talks with people who went in the pool was amazing and not overly packed, but the food was over priced. Around 12:30 PM we headed back to the ship to miss some of the rush.

Two out of the three of us want a nap. Can you guess who doesn't?

Mama took a nap while I followed lil bits around the boat for more explorations. We ended up at the Italian spot for the free lunch. This was a certified win and a nice change up from burgers and buffets.

After the meal we hit up the Hasbro Game Show.

After the show I grabbed a few more of the kiddos and took them up to the sky course.

After that we all met up on a balcony to watch the sun go down.

Next was dinner. We got there early so mama and lil bits hit up the arcade for a moment to get their game fix. We all sat around, joked, and laughed about the happenings of the day.

The kiddos wanted to head back up to the sports deck so a few adults (the babysitters) enjoyed the night sky while they played putt putt, foosball, and madden football.

DR was another early port so we did not linger around too long. I did manage to get a few rounds of Roulette in before I got the text to make it on home lol.

This 5 minute video won't ruin the rest of the review but it will give you a taste of all the fun we had!

After a full day on GT, loads of family fun on the ship, and a quick stop at the night hangout spot I was not feeling adventurous at all this day. Dropped a line over the group text telling the family to move on without us and we would catch up. Low and behold I was not the only one feeling this way. We grabbed a light meal and headed off the boat just to say we walked on DR soil. The original plan was to head over to Dreams Resort with the FB group. Some of the group went. More on that later. The La Romana port is very small with only a few attractions to hold your attention. There is the duty free shop, a photo booth, some type of aquatic fish massage, a few eateries, and a shelter where the locals sold hand crafted items. Elsewise, you will need to grab a taxi and head somewhere for any type of attraction. We wandered around the port for about an hour before the heat drove us back to the boat.

We then went to the Lido and snacked while we waited for the group to get back for Dreams.

Meanwhile over at the Dreams the party never ended. The resort was very accommodating, the food and drinks ran over, the pool was gorgeous, and the beach was remarkable. This is the way it was explained to me. If you are looking for something to do while on DR this all inclusive resort may just be the ticket. When I go back I know I will be giving it a try. I was told the sand and water was just as nice as Aruba.
