I haven't booked yet, but am looking at a ship out of Galveston. We would fly in a day early. What airport should we use? How do we get from the airport to Galveston? What Galveston hotels are good for pre-cruise? Are there shuttles from hotels to the port? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Houston Hobby (HOU) is the closest major airport to the port. The distance from the airport to the port is long, something like 45 miles, so it's unlikely you would find a decent hotel near the airport with a free shuttle to the port.

Look at some of the other threads here in this forum for ideas on shuttle companies you can use.

Are there any hotels in Galveston that have shuttles to the port? What is the best way to get from the airport to Galveston?

As for hotels, Galveston.com has a listing of which hotels offer shuttles to the cruise terminal. Not sure about Hobby to Galveston tho....we're driving from San Antonio to Galveston.

La Quinta at Hobby has a rate that includes round trip transportation for up to 4 people to the port in Galveston (they will drop you off at either the hotel or the airport on the return). It's about $160 more than the regular rate, but it ends up being a pretty good deal compared to the other options. We have done this twice now.

There are a number of hotels in Galveston, and they all cater to the "cruise" crowd. Most every hotel offers some type of shuttle service, either free or for a modest fee.

However, we always just catch a taxi. From any hotel in Galveston, the fare from the hotel to the pier will only run about $15, and it's a short 10-15 min ride. Easy to do. We don't like to depend on a shuttle that may or may not leave on time, and may or may not stop at other hotels enroute.

Coming back, there will be cabs waiting in line to return you back to the hotel (if that's your destination)
