Priceline - all opinions appreciated

How was your Priceline experience?

 

We'll be spending 2 nights in San Francisco next spring and I was thinking of trying Priceline for a last minute room. (4* @ Fishermans Wharf) Any opinions/suggestions would be appreciated.

I have had an excellent experience with Priceline and recommend it to everyone I know. I have bid for rooms at 3 and 4* hotels and won bids for 25-50% of the cost the hotel is listed at. If you aren't too particular about exact location (like a particular street) but know the general area you prefer to stay in, it works out great. I always use it for pre-cruise hotels and really recommend it.

I have had very good experiences using priceline in the past. But this year I seem to be having rejections out the gazoo. I use www.biddingfortravel.com to see whats available. and to date i still cant get even a 3 star close to the airport for up to 150 a night

Just used Priceline for the first time to book a hotel in Miami, it saved me exactly 50% on the room. I also checked on Hotwire and was offered the same price there. I would suggest that you start choosing the higher end hotels, when you can't be sure what hotel you will get you can at least insure a quality room. It's hard to get a bad 3 0r 4*, but not entirely impossible JMHO
