There is usually a discount given on the first night onboard to all of the specialty restaurants. I think it is a 20% discount but not sure.

Yes, sometimes specialty restaurants are discounted on board, but it's not something that you can depend on.

It's hit or miss. We haven't seen specialty restaurants discounted on the first evening on our last 2 cruises.

I have seen some real good deals for lunch but not on all cruises ( lunch is as good as dinner)

We just pre-purchased for Freedom 8/21 cruise but we were disappointed that we cannot reserve until we board since we are celebrating Birthdays on two different nights.

You should be fine as long as you can be a little flexible on dining time.

I think that is part of the reason you are getting a discount, to fill those reservation times that were not taken by full price pre-cruise resrvations.
