Finnjet Posted September 6, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 6, 2016 I will be arriving in La Coruna in a couple of weeks and plan to take the train to Santiago de Compostela. I am a full-time wheelchair user and cannot transfer into a taxi easily, so I prefer to rely on buses, trams and trains. My questions: 1. I know it is too far to walk to the La Coruna train station from the port area. I would like to take the bus. Can someone please confirm: (a) the location of the bus stop that is closest to the port, (b) the correct bus line(s) to/from the La Coruna train station, © whether La Coruna buses are wheelchair-accessible, and (d) the name of the La Coruna train station that services Santiago. 2. I know it is too far to walk from the Santiago train station to the city center where the cathedral is located. Can someone please confirm: (a) the location of the Santiago bus stop closest to the train station, (b) the correct bus line(s) to/from the Santiago city center, © whether Santiago buses are wheelchair-accessible, and (d) the name of the Santiago train station. I have researched as much as I can on the Internet and have some answers but need confirmation from someone with first-hand knowledge. Thanks in advance. LondonTowner Posted September 6, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 6, 2016 I think you may be better asking your questions on the destination forums for each city in Tripadvisor or the local tourist office for each town.

This forum is just one place where I have posed these questions. Thank you.
keltic Posted September 7, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 7, 2016 First 1. With a wheelchair the only feasible solution is taking a cab to Santiago. I know it's costly but Santiago old town is only accesible by residents car or cab again. No buses into the old town. The only wheelchairs to the cathedral is Plaza da Quintana. Estacion de Coruña is called San Cristobal or just Train Station. The only bus opposite the port is number 23A which leaves about 400 meters the train station but using a hight bridge with lots of stairs over a motorway. To get to the station by bus you have to go to San Andres at 400 m and take the bus
keltic Posted September 7, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 7, 2016 Now Santiago. Only the bus number 6 gets close to the station. But close. It's about 100 meters. It's on a superior paralel street. It borders the old town but doesn't get too near the old town with a wheelchair. Virxen da Cerca would be the stop but there're stairs to the old town plus uneven streets to the cathedral. Again a cab would be fine to the cathedral.

Because of stairs etc at train stations, if I were you I'd either take a pre-booked taxi van with wheelchair lift or else hire private driver. The cathedral in Santiago is awesome but has lots of steps, so you'd be unable to view the interior.
keltic Posted September 10, 2016 #8 Share Posted September 10, 2016 No. Interior is accasible by Rua da Conga to Plaza Quintana. The only access for wheelchairs.
