der110 Posted September 15, 2016 #1 Share Posted September 15, 2016 So my latest brilliant idea is to take a Princess Cruise that has a couple of land parts and ends up in Anchorage. From there I would like to take a day and fly to Katmai. The last time I did this, a travel agency set it up for me. We flew AK Air (I think) to King Salmon and then took a sea plane to Katmai. I have long since forgotten which travel agency I used. I would likely prefer flying a major airline than charter a plane all the way there, though that is an option. Any tips for who to contact for a day tour to Katmai?
mapleleaves Posted September 16, 2016 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2016 https://www.nps.gov/katm/planyourvisit/directions.htm Have you checked out tripadvisor.com? There might be info on the katmai forum, but also look under Top Questions in the ALaska forum where there is a thread about bear watching. And you could do a search on the alaska foum for 'katmai' to pull up past discussions about katmai.

RSF Cruiser Posted September 16, 2016 #4 Share Posted September 16, 2016 Have you considered spending at least one night at the lodge? It's really expensive, but some of the best vacation dollars I've ever spent. You get to be there after all of the day trippers have left. An incredible experience. JanetAlice Posted September 18, 2016 #5 Share Posted September 18, 2016 (edited) We booked Katmai through Rust's Flying Service directly. I wouldn't wait too long. You do have to pay it all upfront. Edited September 18, 2016 by JanetAlice
