Hampton inn & suites Convention Centre ?

Seriously considering this hotel for our cruise next August. The reviews seem quite good. We are planning on arriving the day before our cruise and will stay for a day after the cruise as well. Deciding factors are the free breakfast and complimentary cruise port shuttle. I've read that their cruise port shuttle will also take you back to the hotel after the cruise.

Things that I'm concerned with is that it appears to be outside the heart of the tourist area and that it will be too much of a walk to get anywhere. Would appreciate any input you can give on this hotel.

It's closer to the port than it is to the "tourist" area, but New Orleans is a very walkable city. It's also a cheap taxi or Uber ride anywhere. From this hotel, you can walk to the French Quarter in about 10 minutes.

We have stayed there several times. It's a great place to stay! It is a little farther from the French Quarter but we have no problem walking. We walk all over the French Quarter.
