Only in town in for one night pre cruise , where to eat dinner near the crowne plaza ? Thanks for any help

It would help to know what city or port you are asking about. There are numerous Crowne Plaza hotels throughout Florida and the entire US.

Other than Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza, all the restaurants are around 17th Street/A1A area and in the Harbor Shops next to the Embassy Suites.

Crowne Plaza is not really that close to the berths where the ships are. It is close to the SR 84/Marina Mile port entrance, but you still have about a mile or so of fuel depots and other industrial type businesses before you get close to the actual port.

Surrounding the Crowne Plaza is the Mercedes Benz dealership, Enterprise, Ace and Fox Rental Car companies, a barber shop, a Chevron gas station, marine and yacht suppliers and only Anthony's as far as restaurants.

I would have dinner at their inhouse restaurant Kiki's. Very affordable and great food.

The hotel has a small convenience store where you can buy last minute items and wine.

We will be staying at the Crowne Plaza airport/cruise port in Feb 2017. I did a Google maps search & Lester's diner is a few blocks away as well as a Walgreen's. Anthony's Pizza looks a little closer. Both Lester's & Anthony's pizza have good reviews on TripAdvisor. We are thinking Anthony's for dinner & Lester's for breakfast, unless the weather is bad. Luckily there is Kiki's in the hotel.

We stayed at Embassy Suites before our last cruise from FLL. 17th st was a nice area with plenty of choices but we are happy with the deal we got on Priceline for the Crowne Plaza.

Lester's Diner is a half mile west on SR 84/Marina Mile. The OP has reservations at Embassy Suites, but was freaked out by a post by an anonymous person on an anonymous message board about bed bugs, so now they want to stay at Crowne Plaza.

Right, I consider 1/2 mile walk able. I understand OP is staying at Crowne Plaza, that's why I shared my research. Just sharing opinion about past experience with Embassy Suites area.

Ernie's restaurant is just a couple of blocks away. They are known for burgers, Bimini bread, and conch chowder.

It's more than a couple blocks, it's about a half mile as well, which is not that much of a walk, but if they are going to walk that far they might as well walk along Miami Road to 20th Street to the Harbor Shops.

I stand corrected. Ernie's is 4 blocks away, not a couple of blocks. The good thing is that it is on the same side of US1 as Crowne Plaza and Anthony's Pizza, so the OP doesn't have to cross any major roads.

We will be staying at the Crowne Plaza for one night after a cruise in January. Looking at the map, it looks like it is not that far to walk to the Harbor Shops. Is the area safe to walk?

You have to cross a very busy road, but it's not considered a high crime neighborhood.

We're staying there one night in early January. We liked that Hertz was just below the hotel, so that will be our rental car pick up and drop off spot - then the Hertz shuttle to the port. Lots of restaurant options within a short drive, but not so much within walking.

Are you sure Hertz has a port shuttle?

Edit: I just called them and yes, they do.

Despite the report of bed bugs we are taking a chance in Embassey suites , it's seems more central , and us girls want to stop at Galleria Mall , so thought we might be able to get the sun trolley back to Harbor shops , which is near Embassey suites , if google maps does not lie . And there is the evening reception and breakfast included also .

Thank God you have come to your senses and listened to me! :D

Yes, the Sun Trolley circles back around and stops for a few minutes in the very back of the Harbor Shops in front of Publix Grocery Store and Total Wine. Unless you want to do some shopping in one of those two stores, pull the cord and ring the bell on 17th Street just before the trolley enters into the Harbor Shops so you don't have to walk back to the Embassy Suites.

Again, you should consider keeping your rental van since it will cost you the same up to 24 hours from when you pick it up. Embassy Suites does charge a few dollars for parking, but you could avoid that by parking it in the vast parking lot of the Harbor Shops.

If you still rent from Hertz, they do have a shuttle back to Port Everglades from their location in the Crowne Plaza. One or two of you could drop the others and all the luggage off, then go out the SR 84 port entrance, cross Federal Highway and return the van and ride the shuttle back to the ship. Do the math...A trip for 6 of you on the Sun Trolley to and return from Galleria Mall will cost a total of $12-$18, but with the van all it will cost you is whatever gas you use. And DO NOT take the offer of buying the full tank of gas from the rental agency and returning it empty. You are not going to come close to using it all. There is a Chevron gas station right across from the Crowne Plaza and the port entrance where you can put just enough gas to replace what you used before you return it.
