Driving tips from Toronto, Canada to New Jersey Port?

We are planning a cruise on the Anthem OTS and looking for some tips on driving from Toronto to the port? We are hoping to drive more than half way the day before the cruise and stop at a hotel for the night. Any advice for a safe hotel about 1-2 hours away from the port would be appreciated.

Syracuse is 3 hours away, we stopped there on our way. Made it to port very easily. NJ is a 7 hour drive from Toronto. You could get to Newark in one day. The East Coast ports forum has some excellent suggestions.

What exact date would you do this? What is your hotel budget? How many people?

 

Typically we recommend looking at hotels in the Parsipanny area. Hotwired can be a good choice for this area if you're on abudget.

A $200 budget will give you lots of choices. These hotels are primarily for suburban business travelers and are a definite step up from the Newark Airport hotels. we have stayed at hilton garden inn, rockaway, approx 45 mins from bayonne, I-80, exit 35, nice clean hotel, shopping mall, olive garden?, safe area, very easy on/off exit from interstate.
