I think the thing is that it's an opportunity cost - a child is taking a seat that an adult could be using, which would generate more revenue.

 

MSC do some great offers for children, and it sounds like the food won't be so spectacular - guess we will have to wait and see

I am thinking of booking the cocktails so i have 4 guaranteed seats for our cruise. They will be 6 and 4 so the meal msy be a waste

At that age would it be worth paying? I don't have children so probably not in the best place to comment, but would a babysitter be a better choice?
