Suggestions for St. Maarten Day Trips/Excursions

My husband and I will be going on the RCL Explorer cruise 02-April-2006, which stops in St. Maarten for the day. Neither of us have ever been and we were wondering if anyone out there can give us some suggestions for snorkleing tours, beaches, shopping or all three? Cheers!
