MSC Splendida

We're considering a 30 day cruise on the MSC Splendida, starting end of March 2019. We've never sailed with that company. Can anyone tell us where the smoking areas are, on this ship? We called the company and the person we spoke to didn't seem to be completely sure about this.

Can anyone tell us what the gym was like? We like to use it every morning.

Do they have a beauty salon?

They have a very low passenger to staff ratio. Is this going to be a problem?

Any other thoughts about this ship from people who have been on it recently?

Thank you.

Have you decided which service you will take on Splendida? Aurea, Yacht Club etc etc.

It is worth reading up about it on their website to see which one you are plumping for and then letting folks know.

Depending on which you are targeting you will get differing responses (depending on services accessed etc)..

Hi

If you are doing a 30 day cruise on Splendida then you won't need the gym, the ship is soooo HUGE that you will do so much exercise just getting from one area to another! lol

Yes, there is a beauty salon.

The staff ratio to passengers is the lowest we have ever had on a ship, it was okish, but at times could have done with more staff in the buffet, bars and reception.

For us the ship was beautiful, but just much to big and noisy.

Splendida is a great ship. Smoking is on one side of the pool deck and in the cigar lounge and parts of the casino. That's the only places I was aware of.

The gym is ok, not as big as other ships I've sailed on.

I don't believe there is a low passenger to staff ratio. Having 2 fully staffed bars with many wait staff in the buffet is more than other lines I've sailed on. Waited for less time than other lines for drinks service and no problems in the dining room.

In fact I believe the service was better than what was our cruise line of choice until we discovered MSC.

ElvisB .................... I replied to your post on BritBear's "MSC Splendida" thread and assumed you were referring to next year's repo. I see here that you're looking at 2019. I'm currently considering that one, though will wait 'til the price comes down. Those "Early Booking" rates are ridiculous!

If it is at all possible for you, I would recommend that you do a shorter cruise itinerary on an MSC ship before embarking on a 30 day one with an untried and untested cruise company.

And, yes, they do have a beauty salon onboard. I can't comment on the gym except to say that it's at the front of the ship so has great views!

I've never found the staff to passenger ratio a problem.

I answered your question re laundry service on the "Splendida" thread by BritBear:

No self-service laundry, but there is a laundry service and package. I don't know what the current price is. It was 20 items for €30 - you can send as many or as few items at a time over the course of the cruise 'til you reach the total number of items allowed. There is also a set price for a greater number of items but I can't remember what as I don't use the facility. Smoking is usually permitted on the port side, so choose a starboard (even numbered) cabin. Having said that, I nearly always end up with a port side cabin and have never experienced the smell from smokers - even on deck 13, which is 1 deck below the smoking area. MSC is not everybody's cup of tea and it could be a slow boat to China for you if it's not a good fit.
