kay kruise Posted April 11, 2017 #1 Share Posted April 11, 2017 Hi - We're sailing POA for 7 days in Hawaii. The cruise excursions are horribly expensive. Any non-ship tour companies to recommend at each port? Any other tour options you've tried? Which ports do you think we can just rent a car vs. go with a tour? As background, we have 6 people (4 adults, 1 adult wheelchair, 1 four-yr old, 1 two yr-old), so a multi generational family. Thanks!
CruiserBruce Posted April 11, 2017 #2 Share Posted April 11, 2017 Welcome to Cruise Critic! Please look down the board. Every port, and it's options are covered extensively, including tour vendors. You can easily rent a car in all ports. We don't know your interests or budget, so it is hard to plan your vacation for you.

You could do the same in Hilo, but we like an independent tour company there called Mary Lou's Big Island Tours which has excellent reviews both here and on Trip Advisor. Very reasonable price for a full day tour which includes Volcanoes National Park. Family owned and guided by family only, about 6 per vehicle, so you would essentially have a private tour with your group without paying private tour prices. Contact them by email. Semi customizable from a list of suggestions they will email you. Not sure how pricing is done for the two little ones. Be sure to let them know one is a wheelchair user. I've seen mention here recently that they are good at accommodating to insure the enjoyment of all. They also offer tours in Kona, but the town is an easy place to walk around, or you could get out of town with a rental car.
