Gatormomma Posted August 1, 2017 #1 Share Posted August 1, 2017 We will be in port in San Juan in December from 8 a.m until midnight. The Observatory is around 2 hrs away. Has anyone taken a cab there? Our plan is to get cab at port and drive to observatory, then have enough time to walk around Old San Juan upon our return. Has anyone done this with a cab, on their own? Thank you.
Stinger-pr Posted August 4, 2017 #2 Share Posted August 4, 2017 Driving to/from the Arecibo observatory Isla pretty straight forward but for the price a taxi is going to cost (around $120 each way!!) you'd be better served splurging on renting a Jeep and driving yourselves too down enjoying the Caribbean breeze. Just be sure to remember your direction translations (north/norte, south/sur, east/este, west/oeste). The highway you use (PR 22) is a toll road (about 8 bucks round trip) so be sure to get the toll sticker activated on your rental. If you rent a car and have so much time available, get off the ship early and visit the Camuy Cave park (search for Cavernas de Camuy on Google maps). It's about a 30 minute drive from the observatory's parking lot to the caves. You won't regret it. Call ahead to make sure they will be open when you're in town. pdc2013 Posted August 18, 2017 #3 Share Posted August 18, 2017 At that price you should do a tour. if your not going to rent a car that is.
