Is it better to apply for the NCL Mastercard before the cruise or should I wait until I'm on the ship? I don't see any benefit to applying now unless the 10,000 bonus points offer isn't available on the ship.

Since you get double points for NCL purchases (or at least that was the deal when I had the card), you could rack up some nice points making your final payment. If it is too late for that, then probably no benefit for applying before the cruise.

We used the card for about a year and got a nice reward. Then we canceled!

You now get triple the points, should get one ASAP to use as often as possible on all NCL payments. We had a first timer with us apply for the card, she was approved almost immediately, and was given a ship pin for applying. Of course ship pins no longer available.
