Is it possible to get to Nevis on your own?

Yes, it can be done. The issue has always been the amount of time that you have available for your visit to Nevis. I am guessing you are on a cruise ship. Your arrival time in St Kitts? departure time?

Yes and we will be in 8 to 5.

I usually plan on being off the ship an hour after they port and like to be back to the port area an hour to an hour and a half before all aboard time.

Trying to come up with something different to do as we have been here at least 2 or 3 times.

The passenger ferry terminal in St Kitts is about a 10 min or less walk from the cruise ship port. It is about a 45 min ride each way between St Kitts & Nevis. There will be taxi/tour operators at the pier in Nevis offering their services. You may go over on one ferry and return on a different one so do not buy a round trip ticket in St Kitts. Nevis is a small island (about 35 sq miles vs St Kitts' 65 sq miles). Be aware of your departure time from Nevis.

Are there taxi drivers on Nevis who can show you around or is it walkable?

If you come from St Kitts on the passenger ferry, there are usually taxi drivers hoping to offer an island tour to visitors. The town is very walk-able  but an island tour by taxi/tour operator is he best way to see most of the island.
