w8ing2cruz Posted January 22, 2018 #1 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Looks like Maya Key has a bit more diverse opportunites for our group of 10 but just looking for some feedback.
ABQrobin Posted January 22, 2018 #2 Share Posted January 22, 2018 Maya Key does not have "activities" for kids, no kids play areas, etc. It is very quiet and relaxing. There are rescued animals in cages that are WILD, not domesticated. There is also a small museum of Mayan culture. The beach area isn't large, but when we were there most people were not swimming, they either snorkeled or walked around. There is a pool area by the buffet lunch area. You don't order off a menu, it is a buffet of local type foods (roasted chicken, fish, veggies, salad). Drinks you buy at a bar there. There are options to swim with the nurse sharks and feed sea lions, but those are pay extra. Kids might like that. The snorkel area is off the end of a pier at the beach and very lush coral. It was cloudy and drizzly rain the day we were there but we really enjoyed it. Haven't been to French Key...but it looks like it is more geared to families with kids. I have seen photos of people playing in the water with wild animal cubs. Big debates here on CC about ethics of that. robin
