hurrcane201 Posted February 7, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 7, 2018 Does anyone know if Uber picks up at the terminal, and if so, is there a pickup spot?

Rare mking8288 Posted February 10, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 10, 2018 Unlike NYC's licensed yellow medallion taxi - including a taxi stand across 12th Avenue @corner of W. 48th Street - there are no other reserved/designated pickup spot for all other FHV (For Hired Vehicles) ... buses are allowed by port security & NYPD to enter & park in available stalls set aside for pickup & dropoff. Otherwise, taxis & FHV are usually allowed to stop & do their dropoff on level 2 - picking up disembarkation passengers is fluid, sometimes you can use level 2, other times & when busy/multiple ships sharing the terminal - and for security reasons - everyone is herded across 12th Avenue to the other side for pickup, including side streets. How & exactly where, for Uber & Lyft, is usually arranged between the driver & you, once the request is accepted & assigned - and communicated via the App, SMS & voice calling, etc. Traffic backup & congestions around the cruise terminal can be really bad during the peak morning hours - easily take the driver an extra 10 to 20 minutes to wait & get into the terminal area to look for their rider(s) ... unless you are among the first walking off. Otherwise, walking across 12th Avenue to the other side is often faster & easier, unless mobility is an issue. Ride-sharing via Uber/Lyft is done via the APP's themselves, there are no uniformed or ID-badged "dispatchers" on duty (semi-official looking with or w/o clipboards) nor should you even blink if someone approach you for a faster ride with no wait, just around the corner. Giantfan13 Posted February 13, 2018 #5 Share Posted February 13, 2018 We just got off a cruise and needed a taxi from the cruise terminal. We had to go out and across the street and join the line waiting for a taxi. While on line, we did observe several UBER drivers driving by (they are not allowed to stop in the taxi pick up lane) with signs for the people they were supposed to meet. If you didn't see the sign or weren't in that line, the driver had to go around the block again. There is no specific place that non taxis are permitted to stop unless pre arranged. You would do better to select a corner away from the terminal, like on 11th Ave, or walk to 50th street. Cheers Len
