shipgeeks Posted February 14, 2018 #1 Share Posted February 14, 2018 We seem to have a knack of being in a port on a local holiday. Are there any in Canada in early May? Is May 1 the big deal that it is in Europe? Just curious.
Rare martincath Posted February 14, 2018 #2 Share Posted February 14, 2018 This is the classic 'Google is your friend' question for all your future holidays, regardless of which country, so you can find the accurate answer immediately instead of waiting for the possibly-erroneous opinions of other CCers... and even if we might know your answer by being Canadians, since every province has different rules it depends where you're going not just when. If you use any kind of online calendar you can simply add Stat Holidays from most any country to your calendar too - that way it's always available when you're planning time off. Whenever we start vacation planning for anywhere foreign, we add their Stat Hols to Yahoo calendar - it's very convenient and accurate. But to be directly helpful as well as constructively critical, no, May Day isn't really a big deal up here. You didn't say which year you're talking about, but since Easter (a Federal and Provincial holiday on at least one of the Fri/Mon days) never gets as late as April 30th, you shouldn't have to worry about any businesses being closed except for those which open only in 'Canadian Summer' (May Two Four - which is the Monday before May 25th, so never early enough for your trip - to Labour Day - same date as in the US, first September Monday). For future reference if you don't use an online calendar, this page offers a pretty succinct list of all holidays, both federal and provincial, and since it's for payroll purposes can be assumed to be very accurate! dolfan1980 Posted February 24, 2018 #3 Share Posted February 24, 2018 Monday April 23rd is St. George's Day but is not widely celebrated, just a government workers holiday in Newfoundland, not sure about other places. Otherwise for the dates you mentioned you should be free and clear. Sent from my iPhone using Forums
