Loved our “Double Vision” Cruise!

Recommended Posts

We just finished up a B2B on the Vision in an Aft Wrap JS.

The 10 days total ended up costing less then 7 days on the Liberty and was absolutely the right choice for us, but maybe not for most.

For us, we’ve “been there and done that” with all the bells and whistles the Voyager Class and newer offer, we missed the promenade, the Ice show, bigger casino and the better production shows (which we’ve seen). But the three extra days were more than ample compensation, especially since we were quite content to enjoy our HUGE balcony almost any time. And as we hoped the service was better and more intimate on the smaller ship. In addition to the MDR staff, some of the bar staff and Lido staff knew our names and tastes and went out of their way to anticipate our needs.

Pleasant surprises were the super easy embark and debark, Vision was the only ship in Port when we boarded on a Friday, no Galveston terminal traffic, and the new RCCL terminal is designed to handle 50% more people - so we literally parked at 10:30 and were on by 11. The “secret” stairs from deck 8 stbd to the spa we’re a special treat for us to get to the Solarium and the little cafe there with great food that nobody seems to know about. They also did a great job keeping kids out and it was much easier for them to do so due to the location.

About the only unpleasant surprises were the vibration at the stern was really bad when maneuvering - like no way anybody back there was sleeping for the early morning arrivals. We always pick a cabin near the back of the ship, never experienced anything like this (On Oasis is we didn’t even feel our first departure). And the production shows were not very good: we were not expecting all the bells a whistles, but the singers could not sing and the dancers were not good dancers. Slots so tight, never a problem finding a machine we liked because nobody stuck around for long.

We think anybody who loves cruising should experience RCCL’s Voyager Class and newer, but this was a great down-shift for us!

Not sure how the Valor and Vision match up in their schedules, but I know they are both on a 5-5-4 rotation so if they were not their together on 3/9 or 3/14 but were on 3/19, it will be another three weeks before both are in port again. (And Vision will leave for Europe soon after).

In any case the new terminal was built to accommodate Freedom class and larger so once you get by Carnival’s pier one it’s a breeze: Except, I dropped wife off with the bags, then dropped the car. There was a freight train doing some switching blocking the tracks so I had to wait an extra 10 mins.

The live entertainment was very good in the atrium, the piano bar and other stuff in the schooner so-so and the disco in the VCL was dead the one time we visited it.

Great music at the very short repeater party.

Did ship dock at International Pier in Cozumel? Saw news that it docked downtown. Wondering what the reason might have been.

Both of our trips we were at the RCCL pier. There was a Carnival ship downtown when there was a berth available at the Carnival pier on our first leg....

The RCCL pier is undergoing so construction so their is no place I the port to get wet like the Carnival Pier at this time.
