Golfing in ST. Thomas

My husband and 3 friends played golf at Mahogany Run a year ago. They had a blast. They were with alot of other people from the ship and said they were well taken care of. The course is beautiful and interesting and difficult. The rental clubs were Calloways. Hope this helps.

I have played Mahogany Run twice. The best piece of advice I can give is: Bring EXTRA balls!! The course is tight and the greens are the smallest I have ever played.

Since you last sailed with Princess they have added a golf program. The golf excursions are now escorted by a resident golf pro. The golf pro is also availbe sea days for lessons. Free clinics are also offered sea days at 10AM.

How much are the rounds of golf? I was told they were over $200 per person, so we didn't check into to it very much. We'd love to play if it was a little cheaper. :)

Do you just go through the Princess excursions or book on your own? Thanks!

If that excursion price holds up, it is very good. We played Mahogany Run a number of years ago (watch out for the Devils Triangle) and is was $100+ just for the green fees. Add a taxi back and forth and no pro, I think that is a good deal for folks who love their golf :)

Interesting story about Mahogany Run - a few years ago they hired a new guy to help with the greens. He was sent out to "water" the grass and picked up the weed killer by mistake. It took some time before the greens he destroyed came back.:D

We played Mahogany Run 12/99. Must have been right after the weed killer event.:( The scenery was wonderful, but the course itself was in lousy shape (and I'm someone that never met a golf course I did not like, especially if I can play it in Dec.)

Two years later when we went (and I'm talking 3 couples where we men are golf nuts – play in 20 degrees if there is no snow) we left the clubs at home - just not worth it. Sorry - I never thought I would ever say anything negative about a golf course, but be forewarned.

BTW, at the time we were all high teens and low 20s handicappers, and between us, we had a par on each of the 3 holes in the devils triangle. I pared one, Marc pared another, and Mike completed the triangle with his par. If we were playing best ball (or best score), we would have been ‘even’ for the triangle.
