snorkle / scuba in Nassau?

We're in port in Nassau only from 1:00 - 7:00 and there are no snorkle or scuba excursions through the ship. Has anyone done this on their own in port? Thanks!:p

We just went on the Blackbeard's Snorkel and Swim with the Stingrays excursion (through the ship) and we all ended up with more sand fly bites than we can count. It's a week later and I'm still taking Benedryl and trying not to itch.

 

The snorkeling there was interesting, not great, but all right, but I would never go again due to the flies!!
