Yes, your phone and carrier need to support WiFi calling in order to make calls using VOOM.

 

If you don't use WiFi calling, you can still make calls using the ship's cell tower, but that will cost something like $2.49 per minute. That's an AT&T number, not sure what T-Mobile charges.

If WiFi calling is not supported by your carrier, you can still make free calls using various apps (like Google Hangouts).

Dittos to all of the above. WhatsApp is a good third party app. If you have an iPhone you can use FaceTime (audio or video) over Wi-Fi if the other party has an iOS device.

^ also, texting is free on Anthem (I believe OP's ship) for anyone with an iPhone.

Yes, WhatsApp just needs an internet (VOOM) connection.

Thank you. I used the app on my last cruise with voom. I had a different carrier then. I'm glad it will still work.
