NYteacher Posted November 15, 2018 #1 Share Posted November 15, 2018 Does anyone know which social media sites are permitted in the social media package? It’s for my son who assures me that “no one uses Facebook anymore” (I do). He uses mostly Snapchat and Instagram. Can anyone tell me if this is allowed. He currently has his first girlfriend and they are contemplating how to stay in touch for the week.
kwb101 Posted November 15, 2018 #2 Share Posted November 15, 2018 You may want to try What's App, which allows texting using wifi. Not glamorous, but it works when there's no phone connection. Good luck.
NYteacher Posted November 15, 2018 Author #3 Share Posted November 15, 2018 I think that’s what we will do if the other package doesn’t have those Apps. I hope it does, because it would be cheaper to buy the social media package than the general one.
kwb101 Posted November 15, 2018 #4 Share Posted November 15, 2018 Although I don't think it addresses which sites are allowed in the different packages, you may want to look at this recent thread: https://boards.cruisecritic.com/topic/2605396-new-internet-plans-and-pricing/ As I mentioned there, I got the Surf (middle) plan for $10/day. I did find that HAL blocks some sites (the search engine I use, Duckduckgo, was unavailable the whole voyage). Good luck!
Rare Scrapnana Posted November 15, 2018 #5 Share Posted November 15, 2018 Things may have changed but on my last cruise with the unlimited internet, the following sites were listed for the social package: Facebook Facebook Messenger Twitter Instagram Linkedin Pinterest WhatsApp Snapchat
Smart 4-2 Posted November 15, 2018 #6 Share Posted November 15, 2018 Anybody know anything about Skype and Facetime access in any package? I need Skype to call my mom's phone regularly. (she is 92) Last Spring it worked from my cabin all over the South Pacific ! (not all the time, and not fast, but hey, better than a cell phone)
Rare Scrapnana Posted November 16, 2018 #7 Share Posted November 16, 2018 Again, unless things have changed, only the Premium plan supports Skype.
