We were on a Southern Caribbean cruise on Carnival when the QM2 was on her maiden voyage and she docked in Barbados in the harbor where we docked. She was absolutely breathtaking! We were on the Spirit (or Pride, can't remember) which is a large ship but looked like a fishing boat compaired to the QM2. I have to tell you that a couple of extra days at sea on that ship would not upset me in the least!!! Add a 50% refund on top of it and I would be as happy as a cat with a bowl of milk! What more could they have done??? I am amazed at people. Mechanical problems happen on any cruise line and ports have to be cancelled. It is clear in the cruise agreement that they are not responsible for lost port stops...on ALL cruiselines.

Passengers who booked NYC to Rio want 100% compensation or a replacement cruise. To me this is fair and reasonable, as many of them will have flown into NYC, boarded the ship, sailed non stop to Rio and then been transferred almost direct to Rio airport for the flight home. This was most certainly NOT what they paid for.

Passengers that are continuing on to Valparaiso and LA have been offered a 6 day refund pro rata, with an additional 100 or 200 dollar onboard credit. I am NOT aware that this group of passengers are pressing for 100% refund, in fact most people are OK with the compensation offered, although some would obviously like more.
