The open air taxis freak me out and with good reason from experience.

Are regular taxis available to and from Magen's Bay?

You can request an enclosed vehicle but they are not always available so you may have to wait until they can get a driver with a van or SUV to come to the dock. Depending on the size of your group you can reserve a private driver in advance that has a vehicle you prefer.

You could ask to ride inside the cab with the driver.  A lot of those trucks are 4 doors with a seat behind the driver's seat.
