Cabin 8660 on Explorer

We've booked Cabins 8660 and 8662 on an upcoming cruise on the Explorer. Does anyone know what that space next to 8660 represents? It also shows up on Decks 6 and 7, but not on Decks 9 and 10. Just wondering if it's a hallway or some obstruction. Also, 8660 looks marginally bigger than 8662...is that an optical illusion?

Found we could move to adjoining cabins on deck 6 further up on starboard side of ship, but heard that balconies on deck 6 have more metal that somewhat obstructs view? Also, does anyone know if on Explorers Western Caribbean a port side or starboard side cabin affords better island views?

The set of stairs in the back corner is for crew only. Some people on this board have reported using them, but to me, that is WRONG. Don't.

We love the aft for the huge balconies and great views of the wake, but especially for the peace and quiet - only people who "belong" back there walk back there. Way less traffic.

AND - we LIKE the extra exercise that we get. If you DON'T want to do the walking, don't take a cabin on or near the aft.

JMO YMMV
