Are Amber Cove and Puerto Plata the same thing?

I know that Carnival developed Amber Cove as a port stop and that it is located nearby the city of Puerto Plata.   However, I've recently been seeing other cruise lines (e.g. MSC) listing Puerto Plata as a port stop.  Are those other cruises actually stopping at Amber Cove but just calling it Puerto Plata to differentiate it from Carnival or are they actually docking in a different location (such as what is done in Roatan with Mahogany Bay and Coxen Hole)?

It is different. They are building a new port stop, not too far from Amber Cove, from what I have read. NCL is listing it on their itineraries in the future too.

Thanks for the info!  I'd been unaware of this project but it looks interesting.
