Just Back From Costa Med

Today ended our week on the Costa Med and we're sorry it's over! Everyone in our group ranging in age from 9 to 80 had a wonderful time. This was the first cruise for six of those in our group. I didn't hear any complaints from anyone. We enjoyed all the ports of call, the shows we attended, the food, the staff, everything. My 80 & 77 year old in-laws are the only ones who asked for the mattress cover, the rest of us were fine without them. Those that wanted extra pillows, asked for them the first time we saw our cabin steward and got them. (Thank you for those helpful hints.) We never paid anything for room service, except the tip. Most mornings we received a pot of coffee (4-5 cups), crossiants, danish, and a yogurt. Oh yeah, I did go for the cappacino one morning just because someone else suggested it. The staff that we encountered were all friendly, polite, etc. The only complaint my husband had was that the casino wasn't good to him - last time he won big bucks - this time he lost - can't win them all. As for me, I broke even after playing the slots everyday. Played in both the slot machine and blackjack tournments. Had fun at bingo. They had a tribute to Elvis one night and the singer sounded great. What else? We had a wonderful time. Friday night is lobster night. All of us ordered an entree with a side of lobster. I ordered the prime rib dinner with a side of lobster. The nine year old had chicken fingers and fries and they brought him a side of lobster, also. Even though it wasn't on the menu, I ordered a Caeser salad one day at lunch and got it (another helpful hint from another cruiser - even though it's not on the menu, it's always available complete with anchovies) ((yuck!!)).

For good laughs, don't miss the Newlywed, Not so Newlywed Game and the crowning of Mr. Pizza. Both will have you busting a gut! Go for a late night, early morning walk at least once - it's so cool to feel like you have the ship to yourself.

You really can get an extra-large drink of the day for only 50 cents more.

If you have any questions, reply soon. I probably won't be on this site much until planning our next cruise. We have a $1,000 credit from Royal Carribean we'll use but due to limited vacation time, we'll have to wait until 2007 before we can both get away for another week. We've got a week in St. Marteen in July - can't wait for that!!

The standard pillows are hard, thick but hard. I use a down pillow at home. Of the two extra pillows we got, one was hard the other soft - so I bogarted the soft one the whole cruise. If the right pillow is important to you - I'd just take one along.

No, it's not that important to take one along. We are after all on vacation, so I expect hotel type accomodations. Each hotel is different, and we make it through the week. I like adventure. You got back today? so you were on the Western caribbean. How was tendering in Cozumel and what did you do in Ocho Rios?

Thanks soooooo much for the positive review of a Costa cruise.....I'm getting so tired of posts that the cruise was terrible, horrible, will never cruise with Costa again etc but no real good reason why...

I'm so glad you had a good time...

Elaine :)
