nancyneptune Posted August 14, 2021 #26 Share Posted August 14, 2021 Lots of discussions going on in a Marella group re. Marella cancelling all flights from Scotland. Some people have had emails offering alternative airport. Reading yesterday in the press that Tui UK have huge debts. " They have had four billion euros in loans from the German Government and CE Fritz Jousson hasn't discounted considering further disposals following earlier sales of hotels and cruise ships. Only leniency from it's banks over debts has bought them more time " Looks likely that if you book a holiday or cruise flying from Glasgow or Edinburgh chances are your flight may change to Manchester or Birmingham. Scotland always gets a raw deal from Tui. Is it any wonder Tui have lost a lot of their loyal customers to J2. On a brighter note. Virgin will have two flights a week to Barbados from this winter and two flights a week to Florida at the start of next year from Edinburgh. idh2019 Posted August 23, 2021 #27 Share Posted August 23, 2021 The four billion euros in loans is from the German Government and is to TUI (not TUI UK). TUI need to service that debt but hopefully European (and UK) income from holidays and cruises will be enough to allow them to continue. The flight changes may simply be a consequence of lack of bookings so instead of running an almost empty plane, TUI are using 3rd party airlines. Not unusual.
