Ship Time vs. Island Time

Never cruised NCL so not sure how they handle time changes, etc. Does the ship always stay on Miami time? We are scheduling an excursion in St. Thomas and we are scheduled to be there from 8:00am to 4:00pm. The tour operator asked if it was 8:00am Miami time or 8:00am St. Thomas time. I have no clue -- help, please?? I'm assuming there is a difference because he said if it were Miami time then we could do morning or afternoon, but if we were on St. Thomas time we could only do the morning trip.

we were recently on the Spirit and the second day out a little postcard was placed in the state room stating for us to turn the clock ahead 1 hour. when we arrived in St Thomas we were on their time, the second day back heading home again a card was placed reminding us to turn the clocks back . Usually where ever you cruise to you go to thier time while down there

On our recent cruise to the Mex Riviera, we were told to always keep the ship's time while in port. We had to move the clock once on the way out, and then again on the way back, but we did not always match the time on land. Keep the ship's time and you will not be late getting back on board! Lynn

Why is it confusing?

All you have to do is keep up with the ship's time.......

The Mexician Riveria is located in three different time zones, Central, Mountain, and Pacific....

Here's a map:

Note that northernmost part of Baja is in the Pacific Time zone, the southern part of Baja and areas bordering the Gulf of California is in the Mountain Time zone, but the majority of Mexico is in the Central Time zone.

What makes it more complicated is that many Caribbean countries don't switch to Daylight Savings Time. Now that is confusing, but that doesn't occur in the USA until April.....
