drift snorkel in Raiatea

I all depends what time of day you snorkel. Franch Polynesia does not have lunar tides like the rest of the world due to the location. The only tides are a change in water level of only about 1 foot caused by the sun. At noon is high tide and there is very little water flow. In the mornings the tide flows into the lagoons and afternoon the tide flows out. Hope this helps, kinda of confusing.

Jmike this is very interesting.....hope you check pack on this thread because I have a question for you about our drift snorkel.

I was with a group that had to swim our way through. We did the dirft with the ship. It was on an am trip, the guides seeemed to be surprised at the water level and current. So were we just the 1 out of a 100 exception? It was a rough sea day and our ship tendered rather than docked, would the rough sea have an effect?

Yes, for anyone that is reading this we tendered at every dock on our TP cruise.......pain
