Birth Certificates Site????? need help

Recommended Posts

You do not need some company to charge you an arm and a leg to get a BC. Contact the agency in the state/city where you were born. Unfortunately, it is not the state, as suggested earlier, in all cases. For example if you were born in NYC or Buffalo it is not the state. Other states also divide up the records retention sometimes.

I did a google search and found this outfit. Don't know anything about them but I did some tests cases and they definitely direct you to the right agencies. http://www.vitalchek.com/?clicked=1

It wasn't clear if they merely are a search engine or they extract a fee. I would just use their search engine and then order the BC by bypassing their web site and going direct to the agency web site.

We used vitalchek - My DH was born in Georgia and when I called there they said that I had to use vitalchek and could not go through the county directly.

It was a surprise when I was getting docs together to get pass posts to look at my DH's "birth certificate" and realize it was only the hospital copy - 52 years old and he had never had a "real" birth certificate. Glad I caught it early.
