Just wanted to plan a little and wanted to know if anyone has the Freestyle dailies from the Norwegian Dawn that went on the 10-day eastern carribean itinerary from NY (St. Thomas, tortola, St. Maarten, San Juan, Bahamas)? I'd like to know when the spa specials and the like are available.

Yes, one of the days mentioned has a Hot Stone Massage special, combined with something else, I believe.

 

I've never had a Hot Stone Massage myself but it sounds great. Hot stones being places, I believe, on major muscle areas of tension. Like a heating pad but all over and at once. Sounds really relaxing (and I could use one right now after typing all those Freestyle Daily Entries!)

Going on my first cruise in June on the Dawn, I was debating on getting a massage so this info was just what I was looking for! :) I think I'll try to wait for the specials! I also hear they "hard sell" after the massage- true?

You both seem interested in the Hot Stones Massage. I had the Hot Stones Massage on the Dawn in December and will again be having one in April The smooth stones are volcanic stones from Hawaii. They put them in a electric roaster and then into water. They are very warm. It is the best massage you can get. The stones glide over the massage oils and get into every muscle If there's any spot that bothers you let them know and they will woirk on it. It was 80 minutes for $180.00 and well worth it. You even get a scalp & facial massage with the treatment. The reason I needed the massage was, my DW came back from the Spa with a $375 bill the day before.

 

I don't know if they do this anymore, but they usually have a bid contest for Spa treatments. Put in a bid and you may get the massage for better price. My wife won a facial on one cruise.

What you've heard is, sadly, correct. Despite how much I like massages (I love them!), I have trouble with the hard-sell aspect I encounter on the ships. I understand the spa operator requires it of the staff, but that doesn't mean you have to put up with it.

 

My solution has been to advise the massage therapist at the beginning that a sales pitch during the massage makes me so tense I leave in worse shape than I arrived. They seem to figure out, without fail, that the gratuity amount is going to be affected by their adherence to this request. They have all respected my feelings, and I've had some amazing experiences.

 

I seriously think, however, if I ever have a situation where they push products despite my request, I will simply get off the table, put on the robe, and ask to see the spa manager.

 

You're paying a huge chunk of change, you're the customer, and you're entitled to a relaxing spa experience.
