Greenland

New here and hope this is in the right place.

Booked NCL Star for 6/23/23 out of Reykjavik and we have 3 stops in Greenland (Nanortalik, Paamiut and Nuuk)
We are doing a ship based excursion out of Nanortalik but not seeing much for excursion in the other two ports. By chance are there tour operators outside the port in which we could meet and book day of?

Welcome to CC and your first post.

Greenland isn't ideally suited to local operators at the pier for a number of reasons.

Firstly, most Greenland towns and settlements are not connected to anywhere else other than by sea or air.

Secondly, the don't usually have much in the way of coaches, tour guides etc either as the populations are small.. I don't even think that most  have local public buses or minivans although someone else may be more sure of that than i am..

Port stops are really mostly either DIY or organiseed shorex but internet searches could turn up a few local operators which you would most likely have to pre-book as the chances of finding them at the port on the day are slim..

Because of this, most of your info will come from internet research or by reading previous threads which will contain helpful info.

Have you taken the time to learn how the CC Search option works?  If so, do use it.  If not, go to this N Europe and Baltics forum (but not to yoiu own thread)  Under your username you will see an empty SEARCH BOX.  Input ONE of your ports at a time, and also search for Greenland in its turn.  Click ON THIS FORUM from the drop down under the search box, then hit the little magnifying glass and all previous threads containing that word will appear, ready for you to read. And also search for Nanortalik in case you may want to cancel your shorex or switch to a different one. We really enjoyed that stop as the local community put on several events. You can find out more with your CC search.

There have been a number of fairly recent threads on  Greenland and instead of back paging, that is the easiest way to find them.

We enjoyed our first Greenland cruise so much we returned only a couple of so years later.

Been to one of the ports...Nanotalik. Agree with the above...tiny town, not much to do, limited resources for tour provision. There was a couple of boat trips to get up close to icebergs that was popular. A walking history tour. Otherwise, very little.

Thank you both for the replies.

Going to run a search on CC for each individual port and what what/if anything pops up. Wife does want to see Icebergs, which is what we booked through NCL. Worse case scenario we are perfectly happy wandering around town and getting lost.

We are visiting Nuuk and Qaqortoq in a few weeks and except for a few boat tours run by locals, we really haven't found much else to do except tour on your own. The boat tours are small and were dilled up before we even booked the cruise. From what I understand our ship has opened up a couple of tours in Nuuk, but there are hugely expensive and really not to our liking.

Cheers

Len

There have been a number of  threads on both Q and Nuuk quite recently, although most related to Q.  so you could pull them up and have a read as there is a fair amount of info in them.

Rather than much back paging, the easiest way to find them is to go to this N. Europe and Baltics Forum (but not to an individual thread).  Log in, and under your username you will see an empty SEARCH BOX.  Input the name of ONE of your ports of call, hit the ON THIS FORUM from the drop down under the search box, then hit the little magifying glass and all previous threads containing that word will appear ready for you to read.  Repeat with other port names.  And as some threads can have a life of their own and digress a little(!) , I would also search with the word Greenland in its turn.

We visited Nuuk just one time but Q we visited twice.  Didn't do a tour in any of them.
