The elite minutes are the same as before.

If you are wanting to message someone on the ship you are traveling with you can do that through the app when you are on the ship.  You don’t need a internet package to use the app.

I feel certain you’ve considered, but how port intensive is your itinerary?  In most ports, it is usually easy to find free internet (perhaps only the cost of a cup of coffee or other beverage).  I realize that if there are many sea days, that might not be a feasible alternative.
