Safety concerns in Long Beach

How safe is the area around Hyatt Regency, Long Beach, Ca. We'll be coming in from LAX late in the evening , on a Saturday and would like to eat out and wonder around awhile.

The area the Hyatt Regency is in, I would consider a pretty safe area. There's shopping and restaurants close by.

Hyatt Regency is in what I'd consider a very safe area.

As already stated, it is usually a very safe area, but like any other big city, be aware of your surroundings.  I would highly recommend going to the Aquarium Of The Pacific, if that sort of thing appeals to you.
