I've cruised in every category from inside to balcony and never had a bad cabin. The only time I'd say to definitely get a balcony is for Alaska. Otherwise, it doesn't matter all that much especially with a deal like that.

So this is a bit old but I am a HUGE contrarian on the 'Balc for Alaska' model.  The price differential is often very significant.  And when there's stuff to see my wife and I absolutely prefer being on top deck.  We've spent the entire day out there in Glacier Bay NP; dressed appropriately of course.

We had an obstructed OV (gratuities included) for $349pp on Princess in '16. The Balcs were going for more than $1500pp. That's a lot of Balc time.

Balcony Dude:

We just got off the Vista with an inside room casino offer and enjoyed our cruise.  I think most people, if they are being honest, would say a balcony is preferable.  A lot of reasons for this.

However, most cruisers too crunch numbers and there is no denying that inside stateroom guests eat the same food, see the same shows and go to the same ports as the balcony folks.  There was always lots to do on the Vista and we didn't spend too much time in the room.

The TV lineup on Carnival is awful (compared to Holland) in my opinion.  There was a wonderful sports bar by the casino to get your fix of ESPN, which helped.

My pro tip is this.  Take a large LCD clock that you can read without your glasses if you wake up at night or even in the morning.  Knowing the time without having to get up and look at your phone is a big plus.  Even having to wake up enough to reach for your phone can keep you from dozing right back off.

It would be even better if you can find a battery operated clock since the outlets are at a premium.  Others may have better ideas, but that helped us.
