Thanks for the heads up. Yes I did figure that they would charge for the day of picking the car up. Got an 8 night cruise so will book for 9 days. Their charges are pretty reasonable. I guess the only way it would work to be fair is if they charged by the hour. 😊

So, given that, it would seem to make sense to book for earliest entry and latest departure, rather than your estimated times, as it costs no more to do so?

It costs no more to have an earlier entry and later departure. For both our cruises we booked for 10.30 arrival and 10am departure, but frankly it didn't seem to matter. You are booked for that day and that's all that matters. When we arrived earlier than our booked time, the person on the gate neither knew nor cared.
