A Problem with Celebrity Eclipse?

Eclipse has spent several hours off-course and appears to have been drifting for the past few hours. The tracking looks very unusual.

Medevac? Butt scraping? Malfunction?

She is till 'bumbling' along at currently 2.3kn as per MarineTraffic. No other vessels in her immediate vicinity which discounts bum scraping.

The weird part is that her bow is pointed SE, but she has been drifting SW and currently NW. The lack of other vessels also suggests she isn't in trouble but is now well behind schedule. Dare I suggest she is on a rescue mission looking for something/someone in the water.

I am on a forum for the Feb 16th sailing.  One of the others asked the current cruisers aboard and was told no emergency.  The Captain said that they have a day at sea and they were just going to bob around until it was time to head to Dunedin.

Looks like it's heading clockwise around the South Island (and so likely aiming to go to Dunedin and then Milford Sound). It's possibly stopped for bum-scraping and is waiting for the bum-scrapers to arrive as they probably need to come from Lyttleton. They won't be able to instantly arrive and probably don't have the facilities at the smaller Dunedin Port. Or otherwise, it's medi-vac with Christchurch near-by.

If it is a cleaning issue, i guess we were lucky in early January to do the whole NZ schedule

She got her scraping earlier in the season, and would have been at anchor rather than drifting.

 

Good to read they were just filling in time, as it is one of the stranger ship tracks I have seen. They are back on course and cranking out 8 knots toward Dunedin.
