Machu Picchu Reopening Announced

La republica (Lima newspaper) just reported that Machu Picchu is reopening. The article implies that the reopening will be immediate, but does not explicitly say so.

MP opened Sunday Feb 12. Source is Notocias en Cusco on FB.

Cusco and that whole area is still a mess.  We had a tour booked for next month and cancelled but our guide is keeping in touch as we plan on going next year instead.   He told me lots of cars burnt,  businesses and hotel closed and some going bankrupt, all the roads are still blocked so very little food in Cusco.  He walked for hours (sent me a video) past roadblocks etc to get out to get food.

 

He is surprised Machu Picchu is opening as things are still really bad.
