Snorkel Help

Hi Cruisers-

 

We are going to be in Cozumel the first week of April. Since the hurricanes does anyone know of a good place to snorkel-where you can really see the fish or reef....Maybe a dive shop recommendation? Then what is the cost to get there? Will it be over crowded on to many ships in port day? Lots of questions--NEED HELP!!:confused: Thanks-LindaMae---CA

The hurricanes did a job on many of the shallows and much of the soft coral has been destroyed. There is good news however. There are several reefs that have great snorkel tours available via boat and that is the best way to get anything from the reefs now and maybe for a few years. Shore snorkeling is just about nill right now. Fish are abundant at many of the reefs which is beginning to return life to the reef coral systems.

 

Take a guided tour, it is worth the money and time.

Snorkeling is good no matter where you are in Cozumel. While you won't see as many fish sans the reef, there are still plenty to see!

You can go to Paradise Beach. They offer a catamaran snorkel tour for $35pp.

Before our excursion, we had time to go to Paradise Beach.

I second the recommedation for Eagle Ray Divers. When we used them two years ago there were only four of us snorkling with our own guide. Would use them again in a heartbeat.

We were in Dzul-Ha on Tue 3-7-06. Took cab from pier for $7us. We had not been prior to the storms, the damage was very evident, but were impressed with the amount of fish and sea shells. Had to head out a bit for the coral. Easy access from shore.
