Weddell Sea AND South Georgia

I've been looking for trips that include both of these location, and so far have only come up with one (the Oceanwide Expeditions Ortelius). Does anyone know of any other possible options?

We've been on the Ortelius and enjoyed it, but I'm just trying to explore more options if they exist.

Have not seen any other company doing that particular itinerary.  We booked with Oceanwide to do it.  Like you, have been on Ortelius before … 30 days from Argentina to New Zealand by way of the Peninsula and Ross Sea.  Looking forward to exploring a different area this time and happy to be returning to South Georgia.

There are TAs that specialize only in Antarctica cruises.  You should talk to one of them.  However according to CC rules we can not tell you who they are.  You have to do your own research to find them.

The problem is that a lot of them will call themselves specialists, but just saying so doesn't make it true.

Feel free to also ask the question on the Trip Advisor Antarctica Adventures forum where it's fine to name companies and post links etc.

Friends are presently on the longer Nat Geo cruise that covers S Georgia, Falklands and Antarctica, they did visit Weddell Sea for a few days. It's all weather dependent though and can't be guaranteed as far as Weddell Sea. And you probably know that most landings on S Georgia are closed due to the avian flu.

That's OK. We're not planning anything until 2026 or later.

Another itinerary that covers S Georgia and Antarctica is the MS Fram.

As far as I can tell, they only include the West Peninsula. I don't see any offerings that include the Weddell Sea.

That's because any Hurtigruten Expedition Antarctic itinerary is subject to the discretion of the captain and the sea and ice conditions.  No guarantees on Weddell Sea.

Even the Roald Amundsen went to the Weddelll Sea on my cruise in late December, due to favorable conditions we did a short 15-minute ice floe landing and saw an Emperor Penguin.

No, it's because they have no intention of even trying to go there. That means a zero percent chance even if the weather is perfect.

How does that "zero percent" opinion meet with the facts that we went, and I know of at least two other HX ships that went, and both of my friends on Nat Geo/Lindblad went (one in Dec/January and one that has just left)? All three of us saw Emperors, too. The friend that went in Late Dec/Jan also saw chicks.

But you do you.

My Falklands/South Georgia/Peninsula trip was with Hurtigruten, and we too sailed into the northern area of the Weddell Sea to cruise among the tabular bergs. It’s not my only peninsula trip to do so, since the tabular bergs are a popular highlight for ships already visiting Brown Bluff.

If you’re referring to more southern areas in the Weddell Sea, then it’s true that Hurtigruten has not yet planned any Snow Hill or deep Weddell itineraries.
