Baggage Drop for Embarkation

Recommended Posts

On our recent trip on the Jewel out of Bali, we saw travelers getting on the boat on embarcation day and dropping all of their luggage in the casino.  There was a special area called "BAG DROP".  People then picked up their bags and took them to their room when the rooms were prepared.  Is this a new NCL process we can use?  Is this available on every ship?  I would love to bring my bag on board and not risk having it misplaced.  Thank you.

This is on more ships  than Jewel, but don't know it's on all. It's not new. It's probably meant for carry-on luggage. It's not recommended (although maybe possible) to bring big suitcases onboard yourself. If it doesn't fit the scanner going through security I imagine it's a bit of a hassle.

(I actaully saw some people getting told to leave their suitcases with the porters and not haul them around themselves when checking in at Southampton.)

Yes. Bag drops have restarted after NCL changed their room-ready time from 1pm to 2pm/3pm.

There is little chance of our bags being "misplaced".

(1) your bag will need to be able to fit and pass through the "hand carry" x-ray scanner. (2) you need to be able to handle all of your luggage through security, check-in, up the uneven gangway, and through the halls on the ship. Too many people "think" that they can handle their luggage and crash in the gangway or take out fellow passengers trying to move through the crowded ship.

As we departed our last cruise, the two passengers into the next cabin were departing with three huge bags - probably the type that fall into the 70-pound limit for higher airline tier travelers.

The room stewards were out in force with trash bags, linen bags, and cleaning supplies.  The woman took one bag with little issue, and the man took two, pulling them behind himself, side-by-side, down the narrow hall.  The bags were hitting and knocking over much of the steward's stuff, including dumping a 5- gallon pail half full of cleaning solution.

The guy was oblivious or just didn't care.  Our room steward looked dumfounded, then smiled and said a cheerful goodbye, facing extra work to clean up the final mess they left behind.
