Alaska Railroad Seward to Anchorage seat assignment?

Hello! We are staying in Seward for a few days post cruise, then taking the Alaska Railroad Coastal Classic route back to Anchorage before flying home. We booked the Gold Star service. I’ve read a lot of posts where people say they had a seat assignment from the railroad however my confirmation has no seat assignment showing. Do you get assigned a seat when you check in for your boarding pass? Can you make any requests at that time? 
 

With Gold Star service I’m not overly concerned with what side I’m on since you have the glass dome, but I’m curious about how seats are determined. Then of course I’m also wondering which side is best when traveling from Seward to Anchorage, should I be given a choice. Thanks!

Read the entire Confirmed Reservation attachment they emailed you. This is what mine states:

 

“Reservations and seat assignments (assigned 48 hours prior to travel departure date) may be altered or reassigned if passenger and baggage are not checked in 15 minutes prior to scheduled departure.”

I got my seat assignment the day I traveled. I wouldn't worry as even the bad seats have great views.
