this summer will be our first visit to Key west, Can we walk from the ship to the town centre? I also understand (through these boards) that the way to see the town is to hop onto a trolley tram ? where do we find these and do they go round a big circular route and what is the cost of these. Any other info appreciated thank you

You can usually walk from the ship to the town center/Old Town area. I say usually because it depends on which pier your ship docks at. If you are going to be docked at either the Hilton Pier or Mallory Square then you can easily walk right into the heart of things.

But if your ship docks at the "Outer Mole", then you'll take a shuttle from the ship to a convenient spot in Old Town.

As for seeing Key West, keep in mind the island is only 2 miles by 4 miles, and most everything you'll be interested in will be within a 1 mile radius. Yes, an easy way to take it all in is the Train or the Trolley. But if you are motivated, I encourage people to rent a bicycle or simply walk around the neighborhoods. You'll then have time to saunter at your own speed, enjoy the abundant blooms and historic homes, and maybe get more of an authentic flavor of island life.

If you do choose to go the Trolley/Train route, it'll cost $25 per person, and can be easily purchased at the corner of Front Street and Duval Street.

Have fun!

Hi all,

Also a first timer to Key West. Traveling on RCCL Enchantment for New Years. Will be in dock from 7am till 2pm on a Friday. Will have hubby, 13 yo son and 6 yo daughter with me. Both kids are very active, so just walking around or riding a trolley/bus with narration will not do it for them. Museums are also not big favorites.

Any ideas on excursions for us? Looked at RCCL's excursions and these look interesting...Key West Crazy Boat, Key West Pride Glass Bottom Boat, Fury Catamaran Reef Snokeling. Also, we aren't set on going through RCCL, so any sugestions for independents are welcome.

Thanks.

You can rent jet skis right at the dock when you debark from Enchantment. You can take a bicycle tour. You can go on a ghost tour. Your kids might enjoy that. It's not too scarey.

You can rent an electric car (like a golf cart) and drive around the town. Your kids might enjoy the Pirate Soul Museum. It isn't so much like many museums.

Maybe you would like a day cruise on a tall ship. Some captains will even let the kids help raise and lower the sails or even sit at the wheel and "steer."
