Holiday Cruise Questions

A question or two about cruising over different holidays. . . .

Have any of you cruised over Halloween? Can you tell me a little of what goes on on Halloween on the ship?

Also, if you cruise over the Christmas holidays. . . .I assume there is a tree (or more than one tree) on the ship. What goes on on those cruises?

And, on New Year's, I assume the celebration is pretty formal, no?

Thanks in advance!!

I cruised on the Sensation over Christmas in 2004. There was a tree on the bottom floor of the atrium, as well as garland and wreaths around the different levels of the atruim. Othen than that, I don't recall too many other decorations.

As for different activities, the only things I recall was Christmas Carols being sung in the atruim Christmas Eve (with a visit from Santa of course!) and the Bar Crawl that night had a "Christmas theme" with all of the different drinks having something to do with Christmas (like the candy cane). They had one of the show girls dress up in a little santa-like costume and had pictures taken with her, and the dinner menu on Christmas Eve wasn't the traditional menu, instead it had different options like Christmas Turkey and stuffing (not very good :( ). Most of Christmas activities took place on Christmas Eve, as Christmas was a port day.

Hope I helped.

Hiya Mooneydiva:

I've been on various cruises over all 3 holidays and I have to say - DO IT! It is so fun - and it is something different to add to your holiday memories.

Halloweens are really special on ships, I think. 2005 I was on the Sapphire Princess (okay, so it's not a Carnival ship, sorry) and I was amazed how many passengers wore costumes (or at least attempted homemade costumes) in the casino, disco, showrooms, etc. Most people didn't go to dinner in their costumes, but changed later. However -the waiters in the dining rooms were in full costumes. It was fun to see their individual personalities shine.

I was on the Conquest Dec 18 - 25, 2005. The ship was decorated the entire week with wreathes, garland and Xmas trees virtually everywhere! It was beautiful! Our last day (a sea day) the crew put on a really wonderful special show - dancers, Santa, elves, and about 100 of the kitchen and room steward staff came into the showroom singing Silent Night by candlelight. Soooo special. Of course, Christmas Day was weird - being disembarkation day. I'll bet they repeated that special show that night.

New Years on a ship is THE BEST! I think I've done 4 or 5 NYE's on ships. The only part is that I wouldn't want Dec 31 to be the FIRST night of the cruise, ya know? I'm single and would like to scope it out a day or two before all the fireworks and champagne.

Hope some of this helps!

Since you are coming from Nashville TN, one thing you have to remember is the Ice Blizzard weather during Xmas and that time of the year, There are alot of Delays in flights and cancellations. If you attempt to travel during this time, make sure you fly in at least a day or 2 before your cruise
