Was the service in the dinning room good, or was it painfully slow. I really want to book the Star because it seems like a great ship, but I'm hesitant because of our first experience with Freestyle dinning on the Wind (Hawaii sailing) two years ago.We had a wonderful time, but the service in the dinning room was extremely slow every night, even with different waiters. On two occasions we had reservations, but were not even seated until up to 30 minutes past our dinner reservation. Then the service was so slow every single evening, we ended up missing the show or skipping part of our dinner to make the show time. There were even times when we did not get the food we ordered such as appetizers or salads. I actually waited over 30 minutes just to get my a salad and there were times when no one even came to our table for about the first 15 minutes. We joked about it and tried to make the best of it, but it really was frustrating. My husband doesn't like buffets or we would have given up on the dinning room half way through the cruise. I'm really hoping someone can reassure me that our experience was not the norm, that it was just a bad week for that cruise. The waiters were working so hard, I think they were just way under staffed.Thanks.

we had great service on the star in JAN..never had to wait... most of the time we walked up and were seated right away.. even with no reservations.. or we would call and say , can we come in about 30min,,no problem,,, they were always good with the service,, never had any problems at all.... the only place we booked in advance was teppenyaki ... ( benihana style seating ) since there was only 1 table ( cookstation ) for 15 people,, it was good to book it at least 2 days in advance.... other than that excellent service....

you will love the star.. such a relaxing vacation. we are going again in NOV>. we had a blast.. check out our pics on the link below..

take care

I believe the Prides are understaffed, not the Norwegians.

Just look at staffing of the two sister ships, the Pride of Aloha and the Norwegian Sun. The numbers may surprise some.

Ship > Crew members

POA > 800

Sun > 968

I don't think the lack of a casino and its staffing aboard the POA accounts for 168 less crew members than what's aboard the Sun.

We had quick service. In my trip report I commented on how at least twice we told the staff we wanted to make the show and they made sure we were out of there on time. The evening we were in Teppanyaki we had ressies for 7pm and we had to skip dessert to make a 8:30 show. All other nights were great. Even breakfast in the dining room.

Thanks to those who responded to my post. We are always grateful just to be on a cruise ship, but given a choice, we did not want to have to go through the frustration again. I'm happy to hear that our experience wasn't the norm, so I'm going to try to book the Star today.

Plus, the Star was built for Freestyle where the Wind was not. So some of the problems you experienced might be related to that. The Star is an excellent choice.

I would have to agree that the Star's main dining room service was great. We never ate a peak times, usually about an hour after peak. Never had to wait to be sat and never waited for service. In fact for most of the meals, a server was there before you had even "adjusted" yourself in your seat.

The premium restaurants we ate at we great, never had to wait to be sat with the reservations that were made.

Enjoy the Star - we won't be on her again for a while.

We're on the the 12-16-06 sailing to Mexico. Eight of our nine cruises have been to the Caribbean, so we are looking forward to something a little different and visiting Mickey while we are in the neighborhood. Thanks scooby, we will try out Aqua first! We really aren't difficult to please, but service was really, really bad on our sailing on the Wind. I have faith that things will be much better this time.
