Thunderstorms at sea?

My GF and I were on the beach in Cocoa yesterday. The cruise ships were pulling out of Port Canaveral shortly before some nasty thunderstorms hit us. We started to wonder: has anyone encountered thunderstorms out at sea?

We had one headed back into Port Canaveral last year... it wasn't too bad, except for you noticed the boat rocking a bit more than usual. I've heard of some cases where the captain will request everyone stay off the deck until the storm passes if it gets particularly nasty, but I haven't experienced that myself.

We experienced one on the Splendour coming out of Key West. We were at early seating and it was quite an electrical show with the large windows in the dining room.........didn't last long and was quite a lightning show.

Maybe that should be the name of the next RCCL ship...Thunderstorm of the Seas.
